Our Story

Abhijeet and me lived in the same city, went to the same school, went to the same junior college, yet never bumped into each other till 3rd sem of our engineering. We were introduced by a mutual friend. Once I commented that he looks very grown-up in formal shirts which then on he never wore again ( he went extra lengths and even refused to wear one for a formal presentation )

We fell in love over bike rides, harry potter novels and hopping around all chaat stalls in Dombivli.

Not everyone remembers the exact moment they knew that he/she is ‘THE ONE’ but I do, very clearly. Abhi was telling me (in a time lapse format) about how he sees himself in the next 10 years when I just realized I was present in background of every frame he was describing.

After college, Abhi left for the US to pursue his Master’s… and then started a 4 year phase of long distance…. After being around each other most part of day it went to just stealing a few minutes over the phone…

3 years later, I moved to Buffalo for my Masters… Once every month he travelled 8 hours by bus to just see me over the weekend… After my Masters I was overjoyed on receiving a job offer in D.C….. And so here we are….

We cant believe its been 7 years.. All this time we have evolved around each other. Abhi bought stability to my flighty personality where in I bought spontaneity to his. We are looking forward to the beginning of many new chapters in our story..

The Proposal

14th Feb, the day was set in my mind. I wanted to surprise her but knowing her for almost 8 years I knew it was not going to happen. She has got some sixth sense and she always knows what I am planning. But I was very determined to keep this as a secret this time. But I also wanted to get her a ring of her choice.

So after some careful planning I took her out to see a few rings just to try on. After some search we found the one. But the jeweler said he wouldn’t be able to make one for her in time for Valentine’s Day. We came back home and that was it for now. She knew I wasn’t going to be able to propose on the 14th.

What she didn’t know was that I had already put in the order to get the ring ready in time.

So on the 14th I took her to dinner at one of her favorite seafood restaurants located on banks of the Potomac River. After the dinner I asked her to go for a walk with me on the beautiful waterfront. There was a wooden bench and I placed my Camera and put it on video mode.  She thought I am just setting it up to take our photo.

As she was posing for the picture, I walked up to her and got down on one knee.

The smartest girl I have ever known had still not realized what was going on. Seriously, in the video you can even hear her saying “Why are you kneeling down? Are we taking the picture like this?” I popped the ring and only then it hit her completely what was actually happening.

BIG SMILE  🙂
